Located on an island on the river Seine, in the heart of Paris, the Ile de la Cité is home to some of the most beautiful and famous monuments in the city. It’s delightful squares and streets are also the perfect place for an afternoon stroll to admire the many sights along the riverside and soak up the very Parisian atmosphere.
Our expert guides have designed a special tour of this fascinating area that is suitable for all ages and can be enjoyed by all the family, including young children.

Start your tour in front of the extravagant Hotel de Ville, office of the Mayor of Paris (although it looks more like a fairytale palace!) Cross over to the Ile de la Cité, and enjoy a walk along the river banks and through the charming flower market. Then it’s time to skip the often long lines and enter the gem of the island, the Sainte Chapelle. This tiny chapel is home to some of the most dazzling stained glass in the world, much of it dating from the 13th century. Intended to educate the people of the time, the windows should be read like a comic strip. Marvel at the vibrant and beautiful colors as your guide teaches you how to read their stories.

Your tour will take you past the Conciergerie - medieval palace, revolutionary prison and final home of Queen Marie-Antoinette before she was taken to the guillotine in 1793. Learn of troubles and turmoil during the French Revolution and the stories of some of the famous residents of this infamous prison. See the oldest public clock in Paris, as your stroll continues through one of the prettiest squares in Paris to the oldest bridge in the city.

Sitting next to the Conciergerie is the Sainte Chapelle, a small gothic church that’s absolutely irresistible due to the world-famous stained glass panels that surround the upper level. King Louis IX, better known as Saint Louis, ordered the construction of this edifice in the 13th century to house his holy relics. We’ll skip the often long lines, but our biggest added value is your guide’s explanations and assistance inside. The spectacular stained glass windows were modeled on religious manuscripts of medieval times, and your guide will help you “read” them!
